When the data within your organisation becomes too valuable to lose, you need a fileserver. A fileserver can perform a multitude of tasks including file management, sharing of printers and other resources, website hosting and the management of sser accounts and security rights and passwords.
A file server allows users to share information over a network without having to physically transfer files by floppy diskette or some other external storage device.
Any computer can be configured to be a host and act as a file server. In its simplest form, a file server may be an ordinary PC that handles requests for files and sends them over the network.
Fileservers are the basis of secure and extensible networking and ease the addition of other server based technologies such as Microsoft Exchange Server and SQL Server. The centralisation of IT services also allows for centralised backup and restore routines to be established.
